International Foundation for Sustainable Development is a Public Charitable Trust officially registered in 1977 and obtained tax-exempt status under 80G of Indian I.T. Act. Foundation has acquired social skills and experience in Kalighat area through community effort for sometime.
Government of India has approved a National Policy on Tourism which provides scope for development of tourism product packages in the form of Integrated CIRCUITS through convergence of resources of Government, Private Sector, NGO’s and other participants, International Foundation for Sustainable Development (IFSD) has conceived the redevelopment of Kalighat area in Kolkata centering around “Kali Temple” and has routed the project through Government of West Bengal To Government of India for funding.
However, NGOs, Corporate houses, OCBs, NRIs, individuals all are contributing funds and services to this unique private-public partnership project. Total cost of the project is estimated to be Rs.65 crores including dredging of adiganga, constuction of visitor’s centre, parkomat, plaza, Tourist amenities etc using thematic façade of “Atchala” architectural form.
