Kalighat is an important pilgrimage centre for Indian Toursts/Pilgrims from India and all over the world who visits Kali Temple for Holy Darshan of “Goddess Kali”. Kalighat also attracts overseas tourists who pay their visit to Nirmal Hriday. Mother Teresa’s Home for Destitutes. Pilgrims for Gngasagar Mela come as far as from Surat and western coats in large numbers.

Kali Temple Gate on Northern side has a statue of Jesus Christ and Virgin Mary in a building of Islamic architecture. There is a Greek Church and a Sikh Gurdwara in the project area.
Kalighat redevelopment Project(KRP) as proposed will improve the ecology and environment of the area while attracting tourists from all over India and overseas, who are presently discouraged due to untidiness, congesting and poor infrastructure and access to Kali Temple.
On completion of KRP, the Kalighat destination may be included in the Pilgrimage Circuit to visit Gangasagar- Kalighat - Belur Math - Dakshineshwar - Mayapur as an integrated package or single destination package.
The river cruise from proposed Embarkation Jetty near Princep Ghat will be an attractive route for top-end Indian Pilgrims and Foreign Tourists to visit “Kali Temple” hassle Free. The entire Gangasagar-Kalighat-Belur Math-Dashineswar- Mayapur pilgrimage circuit will be accessed through river cruise as a intra-circuit pilgrimage tour package
